Happy Birthday to me!

Thank you for stopping in to see my “happy birthday” card made especially for today’s guest appearance. Actually, it was made especially for me!  I am honored to be sharing the spotlight once again with Mary Fish. This layout illustrates not only how well the Stampin’ Up! card stock and designer papers work together, but also how well the embellishments compliment them. The embellishments are like the icing on a cake  - birthday  cake! The combination of black against the subtle colors makes for a very striking card. Despite the use of black on the scalloped trim, one of the scalloped punches, and the ribbon this cards emanates a feminine flair. The black was my attempt at humor for the big 50!

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to me!

I celebrated a milestone birthday this past Monday and my intention was to make myself a 50th birthday card. I had a vision of a layout in my mind yet once again ended up with a completely different finished product. While sifting through my designer papers I came across the Pool Party and Basic Black herringbone patterns, which are from two different designer paper sets.  I fell in love with the color combo and Plan B went into motion! Plan B was actually, “Now I have no plan!!!”  I am thinking that I may have to change my website name from The Crafty Bandit to the Plan B Stamper!  Originally the “happy birthday” greeting was stamped using the Blushing Bride pink, but it was difficult to read the greeting. The Melon Mambo embossing powder was the pop I was seeking. At the last minute a decision was made to fill in the stamped greeting with the Basic Black marker. This allowed the sentiment to be more easily read, and it helped tie the card together.

Pool Party was the color for the base card. The Pool Party herringbone designer paper strip is 5 1/4" x 1 1/2" with a black scallop trim to the left and black taffeta ribbon to the right. The small buttons on the top of the card sit atop 1/2" black circles, and the larger button on the bottom sits atop a black 7/8" scallop circle. The Basic Black rectangle in the middle of the card was cut at  3" x 2 1/2" and the black herringbone DSP is cut 2 3/4" x 21/4". I cut and layered the scallops in Blushing Bride, Pool Party herringbone (2 3/8") Pool Party and Basic Black embossed in Whisper White (1 3/4") with another small button placed in the center. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and heated with Melon Mambo embossing powder. The sentiment was then filled in with a Basic Black marker and fussy cut. I cut a stip of black and fussy cut it to outline the greeting. The finishing touch was adding the Basic Pearl Jewels in the bottom right hand corner.
